Illustration Underskrivere

Kampen mod klimaforandringer vil blive vundet eller tabt i byområderne. Langt størstedelen af Europas befolkning lever og bor i byer og står for omkring 80 % af den energi, der bruges i EU. Lokaladministrationen, som er det statslige niveau, der er tættest på borgerne, er perfekt til at skabe overordnet fokus på klimaforhold. Flere og flere byer beslutter sig således for at tage udfordringen op, hvilket kan ses ved det stigende antal underskrivere af borgmesterpagten.

Underskriverne repræsenterer byer, der er forskellige i størrelse, lige fra små landsbyer til storbyer som London eller Paris. Inden for et år efter underskriften skal underskrivere af borgmesterpagten forpligte sig til at implementere handlingsplaner for bæredygtig energi i deres område med henblik på at reducere CO2-emissionen med mindst 20 % inden 2020.
